Hula King

Last night saw Wizbot, myself and a welcome return for county Phil take on the Hula king challenge.

With an array of different hoops we carried out a number of hula-themed activities.

1. Warm up

2. Circuits – 2 sets with 1 min exercise per station

  • Hula practice
  • Press ups
  • Jumping in/out of a hoop raised off the ground
  • Squats
  • Hula burpees — jump your legs into the hoop then leave the ground lifting the hoop above your head
  • Crunches

3. Shuttles

While one person runs to the halfway line and goes through a hoop and back, the others have to complete:

  • Round 1: 15 burpees, 15 press ups
  • Round 2: 10 pull ups, 15 crunches

4. Hoop off

With 3 hoops touching in the middle, each person adopts press-up position. The game is then to get a set of beanbags into others hoops, while they are trying to put them back in yours, kind of like hungry hippos in reverse. Repeat in crab position.

5. Action quoits

The hoop off loser — Phil — then played the peg as Wizbot and myself tried to land the hoops over his head from 5m

6. Hula king circuit

Crowning the night was a circuit with one person in the middle. 1 min per exercise while the person in the middle tries to get as many consecutive seconds of successful hula’ing as they can. Exercises:

  • Plank
  • Squats
  • Crunches
  • Plank jacks
  • Warrior squats
  • Cali pop-ups

Our Hula King for the night was the returning and triumphant Phil with 52s. He earned himself a packet of Hula Hoops for his skills.
